We Are Beams – Sensory Garden
Project Overview
We Are Beams was established as a charity in 1996 by a group of parents that believed that they could deliver better support for their disabled child by working together, rather than the help they were currently getting through the local authority.
The charity has grown significantly and offers services to at least 450 parents and children at any one time.
We Are Beams’ mission is to provide comprehensive support services to children and young people with any form of physical, learning or sensory impairment living in Dartford, Gravesham, Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas.
Following two years of fundraising, the new garden for disabled children and their families is now open!
The Outcome
Timotay worked with We Are Beams to understand their setting, their users’ needs and the objectives of developing the outdoor space.
In order to fund the project, We Are Beams embarked on a two-year fundraising journey, so that their outdoor space could be transformed.
The transformation now provides a fully immersive, interactive space for all users to enjoy. and includes:
- An extensive climbing area
- Water play area
- Sand play
- Seating areas
- New pathways and surfacing
- Music areas
- Light and sound archways
- Mud play area
- Planting areas
